The representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Benson continued with his financial support for the Law graduates from Ikorodu who secure admission into the Nigerian Law School (NLS), as part of his efforts to encourage more lawyers from his constituency to excel.

42 students who have been admitted into different campuses of the NLS received N200, 000 financial support individually at the lawmaker’s Federal Constituency Office, Igbogbo-Ebute Road in Ikorodu.

Over 30 Law School candidates received the same amount of financial grants instituted last year as an intervention to cushion the financial expenses of the law school programme on prospective lawyers from Ikorodu while in Law School.

Mrs Jumoke Benson, wife of the third term lawmaker who represented her husband said that the grant was in fulfilment of her husband’s resolve to support the legal profession, and to encourage more young people to become lawyers, a noble profession that he – Jimi Benson – also studied and practised.

She stated that the financial support was provided to enable the beneficiaries to cover some of their expenses for the law school programme, and ease the financial burdens for the one year study on them and their parents.

“The reward for hard work is more work. l want to tell you that if you dream big, you will achieve it, no matter what it is that you face, no matter what it is that you go through, you can actually achieve what you want to achieve. They said that the hardest part of any journey is the first step and you have already taken the step by completing your law programme in your various universities, and now you are going to the law school.

“Though, they usually say that law school is hard but you can actually do it just the same; Hon Benson finished well from the Law School despite being involved in an accident before his final exam, and today, he’s a member of the House of Representatives.”

While describing the beneficiaries as the future and the leaders of tomorrow, Mrs Benson urged them to also ensure that they give back to the society when they start practising.

“If you want to appreciate this gesture Hon. Benson is giving to you, please, when you become lawyers, and you have the opportunity to represent somebody or give somebody legal advice without having to charge the person, please, do it. That is the form of passing the gesture forward we encourage.”

She assured that the annual law school grant would be sustained for more students to benefit and be encouraged to become lawyers.

Speaking earlier, Mayor Muhydeen Sanwoola, the Director – General, iCare Foundation, the working team of Rep. Benson, recalled that the incessant requests for financial support by students going to the Law School necessitated the need to institute a grant structure leading to the establishing of the support grant.

He emphasised that the grant is solely from Rep. Benson’s personal income and not from the government.

Mayor Sanwoola urged the beneficiaries to make the lawmaker proud in the Law School by earning good grades and becoming lawyers that would also contribute to the development of the society.

While responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Abdulrahman Adebanjo, thanked Rep. Babajimi Benson, for the grant and his contributions to the advancement of legal education in Nigeria. He said that the grant was special because it shows that Rep. Babajimi Benson is not leaving anyone behind in his representation.

He stated that Ikorodu has witnessed transformation through the representation of Rep. Benson, which he added reflects the Renewed Hope Ageda of President Tinubu.

Abdulrahman Adebanjo assured the lawmaker that he and his colleagues would make him proud in the NLS.
